If like me you have had an amazing Christmas but feel a little "done" with it all - too much eating, drinking & not enough time to just "be", then why not try out our new term at Escape2Art?
There is so much focus on January as the month for sorting ourselves out - diets, exercise and all sorts of work oriented resolutions but what about a bit of healing for our minds?
Lets face it Christmas, (with a bit of luck), is a happy family time but it can be extremely busy, hectic and not without a fair amount of stress. Actually that's just the few festive days themselves, never mind the weeks of preparation that precede it. As a thank you to yourself and a reward for all your hard work, why not give yourself some down time to reset that stressed exhausted brain?
Do you know that 'Me time' is now defined in the Oxford English Dictionary as: 'time spent relaxing on one's own as opposed to working or doing things for others, seen as an opportunity to reduce stress or restore energy'. Likewise 'Mindfulness' is defined as: 'A mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique. Sound appealing? Then why not try some art to recharge?
Some people say they never feel more present that when creating. Art activities require unique focus and cause the artist to set aside all other thoughts and worries. Fully immersing ourselves in a creative project activates a different part of our brain. We lose track of time and our surroundings and there are no thoughts apart from what’s happening in the present. It’s very much an exercise in mindfulness.
What is unusual about Escape2Art is that the small group set up gives you a chance to take part in these relaxation techniques in a gently social environment so that you don't feel isolated. Materials, inspiring topics and gentle guidance are included in the cost so that you can literally plug yourself in for a couple of hours and needn't prepare in advance unless you want to. Have a look at out 'art work' section to see the broad range of skills and techniques that we cover - anything goes and everything is celebrated!
